About Thursford Wood
As well as containing some of the oldest oak trees in Norfolk, Thursford Wood also has an excellent display of spring bluebells, summer ferns and autumnal fungi. Good numbers of common woodland birds are present.
It is thought that some of the oak trees in Thursford could be more than 500 years old. Each tree is managed carefully, occasionally requiring larger limbs to be removed to avoid the trees being unstable or dangerous.
Towards the River Stiffkey, the woodland descends to alder carr where golden leaved saxifrage can be found between stands of flag iris.
