20 February 2018
Easter is a simply brilliant time to visit Norfolk! All the main attractions are open again, while the Broads and beaches come back to their best. The Easter Holidays give even the busiest families time for a break too, while you can still find some excellent offers and cheap rates if you shop around! As for Easter Weekend itself, and the days that follow, here are just some of the great days out and family events to look forward to...
Family Easter Fun at Holkham Hall (March 30 - April 2nd)
For those looking for a full day of activities for the kids, Holkham Hall has the best variety of just about anywhere in Norfolk this Easter. Your little ones can paint or decorate cakes, try brain-teasers or count bunnies. And that's just in the Hall! Venture out into the walled gardens and there is a trailer ride, storytelling, circus skills to learn and even a magic show.
A family ticket for two adults and up to three kids is the best value of the lot, starting at £21 for the outdoor stuff, or £41 for everything. With the sheer amount of activities and fun on offer, that's still great value. See the site for details: https://www.holkham.co.uk/events/easter-at-holkham
Spring Wildlife and Norfolk Sea Tours
For those who love wildlife, the spring is an excellent time to get closer to natives and visitors alike. Reserves such as nearby Holme Dunes are ideal for a spot of walking or birdwatching. For a truly memorable experience you could also embark on a sea tour with one of the Wash Monsters at Searles Sea Tours though. These fun day trips are the closest you'll get to our much loved local seals- don't forget the camera! See https://www.seatours.co.uk
Easter Trail, Craft Workshops and Egg Hunt at Pensthorpe (from March 29- April 15)
Are your kids full of energy and curiosity in the holidays? If they love animals and hands on activities, Pensthorpe is another top family day out that runs the full holiday fortnight. Along with a classic Easter egg hunt, the Pensthorpe "Eggstravaganza" is a great chance to get creative and meet native wildlife. Meanwhile, mum and dad are sure to enjoy the blooming flowers and wild corners of the gardens and woodlands here. A win-win we think! Miniature Steam Trains & Special Events at Holt
(Easter Weekend, April & May)
Vintage marvels in miniature: click here for event details)
Love trains? Well here's a model train set with a BIG difference! Lovingly maintained by members of North Norfolk Model Engineering Club, there are various beautifully made models to see here. Many are also powerful enough to take you for a ride! From steam engines to modern trains, little ones and grown ups alike will love the variety of locomotives in action opposite Holt Station. Do check the event page on Facebook- and the weather- before heading out, because heavy rain could stop play.
Of course, you can also take a ride on a full sized steam train just over the road too, with selected seasonal events always popular. Forthcoming family days include a Spring Steam Gala (April 20- 22) and Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends Special (5-7 May). Click here for more details, times and tickets.
Rainy Day Activities for Spring
We have everything crossed for fine spring weather, but what happens if it pours for a day or two? It's always good to have a plan B and some wet weather activities up your sleeve. There are plenty of indoor things to do here at Searles, from pool to table tennis, kids activities and regular entertainment. If it's a family day out in any weather, Hootz House at Pensthorpe is another good bet meanwhile. Even on the wettest day, kids will love the tunnels, slides and climbing frames here. If you're looking for an Easter day out geared more towards grownups, this could be just the place, with the fantastic museum and gardens full of colour and history, not to mention fine food and drink. For the kids though, there's an Easter Egg Hunt with money going to Norfolk Charities.
